 About Ms. Oteka

Although I was born and raised in north Denver, I have traveled extensively and lived abroad. I completed my B.A. here in Denver at Metropolitan State College. My master’s degree is from Boston University, and my teaching certificate is from the University of Denver. My teaching career began in Douglas County School District where I taught at Sedalia Elementary for 11 years, including a one year teaching exchange in the outback of Australia. I taught 4th grade at Centennial in 2001-2002. Then, I spent almost 2 years living in New Zealand, part of that time teaching Year 7 Accelerant Class. I am delighted to continue as a 3rd grade teacher.

 Third Grade with Ms. Oteka
Centennial 3rd graders are challenged every day in language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. A balanced literacy program is utilized with guided and shared reading strategies every day. Our writing curriculum, Writing Alive, is a multi-sensory approach, and allows students to write every day. The Everyday Math program enriches the student's skills through hands-on activities and real life problem solving. In science the students explore animals, simple machines, and the Solar System. The social studies curriculum includes immigration, communities, and the American Revolution. Of course, every class has CAFE classes, art, music, PE, library and computer lab.
