Reading Support, Instructional Coaching, and Gifted & Talented
Early Literacy Intervention Program
We offer individualized, one on one or small group reading instruction to 1st through 3rd grade students. In order to best serve each student, literacy specialists are trained in, and use, a variety of support models, including Early Success, Reading Recovery, and Guided Reading.
All Centennial students receive classroom assessment to determine reading and comprehension levels on a regular basis. Students who demonstrate difficulty are referred to the ELI staff for further assessment and placement in the ELI program. Each child who enters the program receives daily instruction from a specialist, in addition to classroom instruction.
Intervention for 1st grade students typically includes instruction in decoding strategies, phonemic awareness, phonics application, and sight word accumulation; all aimed at helping the student develop his/her own self-extending system.
In 2nd and 3rd grades, a strong emphasis is placed on reading comprehension skills for both fiction and non-fiction texts. In addition, difficulties with decoding skills and reading fluency are addressed as needed.

Instructional Coaching
An Instructional Coach works with teachers and adminstrators to ensure student achievement. We look at student data together and use our findings to implement the next best steps for our students.
We focus on the PLC questions:
1. What are the students going to learn?
2. How will we know they learned it?
3. What will we do if they do not learn it?
4. What will we do if they already know it?
The purpose of the Instructional Coach is to ensure that all students in the Littleton Public Schools achieve the highest level of their potential through quality instruction in all classrooms. In order to assure these high levels of learning and this quality instruction, the IC will:
- Provide intensive instructional coaching to new teachers so they may meet performance criteria as established by LPs.
