 A Message from our Principal

Dear Centennial Families,

Welcome to another year of learning at Centennial Academy of Fine Arts Education. Our caring and dedicated staff members look forward to working with our students to provide a solid, rich learning experience every day. We strive to help children become fluent, comprehending readers who choose to read for the simple joy of reading and to use this skill to learn about our world and beyond. We strive to help children view the world with “writer’s eyes”, understanding what it means to be a writer, possessing the skills and knowledge needed, and eager to express their thoughts and ideas through the written word. We strive to help children develop a deep understanding of numbers and problem solving, developing our students as mathematicians who not only understand how numbers work, but also why. Students deepen their understanding of our world through Science and Social Studies curricula that align with Colorado State Standards and Littleton Public Schools’ Essential Learnings. Each child’s education is further enriched with a rotating schedule of Art, Music and Physical Education.

Education through technology is key to preparing our children for life in the 21st century. To this end, each classroom is equipped with a multimedia projector and document camera, thanks in a large part to our PTO. Every student in our 5th grade has use of a Eee netbook throughout each day, and all students have access to our fully equipped computer lab, and 30 laptop computers on mobile carts. Understanding how to locate, navigate and critically evaluate the volume of information available to our students is critical, and we strive to provide the skills and knowledge our students will need to be prepared for a 21st century world.

This is Centennial’s eighth year as a Fine Arts school and we are extremely proud of our program. By extending the length of our instructional day, every child participates in a variety of Fine Arts classes throughout the year. By first grade, every child chooses two different arts classes in which to participate each semester. Some of our offerings include woodwinds, brass band, percussion, watercolor, sculpture, Shakespeare, Suzuki violin, tap dance, piano, modern dance, dulcimers, and guitar. We are so grateful for the support and funding of our Fine Arts Program by Littleton Public Schools.

Centennial staff members are dedicated to providing a strong, rigorous curriculum, including a rich variety of learning experiences in the arts. We believe strongly in the importance of developing partnerships with parents in the education of our students. Your support of and participation in your child’s education is greatly appreciated. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any of your questions, concerns, or ideas.
Every child who walks through our doors is unique. Our hope is that each child’s experience at Centennial helps to create in him or her a love of learning with the skills and knowledge to be a confident, informed citizen of the world.
To a wonderful year of learning,
Mary Ellen Dillman, Principal

 Meet Mrs. DillmanMinimize

Becoming the Principal at Centennial Academy is truly “coming home” to Mrs. Dillman.  She was born and raised in Littleton and graduated from Littleton High School in 1972.   She and her husband, Dennis, are the proud parents of two grown sons, Jeremy and Adam.  After completing her bachelor’s degree and obtaining a teaching license from Metropolitan State College of Denver, her dream came true when she began teaching at Lumberg Elementary in Jefferson County.  In addition to her experience as a classroom teacher, Mrs. Dillman taught English Language Learners, worked with teachers as an Instructional Coach, and as the facilitator of a reading intervention program.  She served as Principal at Mortensen Elementary in Jefferson County Public Schools for three years, prior to joining the Centennial staff in 2008.  Mrs. Dillman has a Masters degree from the University of Colorado at Denver in Curriculum and Instruction and received her Principal’s License through the University of Denver.  She is excited and honored to be the Principal of Centennial Academy and is proud to be a part of Littleton Public Schools.
